Are two parents needed?

In my personal opinion I'd say no they don't. But it really is down to you and your own beliefs as to whether or not both parents are needed in a child’s life. I was raised by my mother, saw my father a little but he preferred his new 'adopted' kids more than me and now thinking about it I would have been better off if he had left before I had realised what was going on. The stress of the arguments and feeling as if it was my fault, as if he didn't love me did more damage than him leaving. I had my Mum and my Nan, they loved me and did their best for me and I can't imagine my life would have been any better if he had been interested in me.

This is only my opinion but I believe as long as the child/children are loved and cared for then whether there is one or two parents involved in its upbringing it won't make any difference. Of course if it is only one and the other isn't interested then at some point the caring parent will have to explain why there is no contact with the mother/father and the child may wish to contact them to ask questions of their own. This is something I will have to face at some point as my son's father didn't want anything to do with him but if he wants to know who his dad is when he is older I will tell him what I can.

As long as a child is given love, support, encouragement, guidance then it shouldn’t matter who is or isn't involved. Of course if it is only ever one parent then there are some area's that maybe tricky to deal with. Such as even though I can shave my legs ect no real idea if its the same for the face so teaching my son to shave maybe a bit of a learning curve for us both. There are also some other 'male' bits that he may not want t talk to me about but that is why have 3 male guardians who will hopefully be able to help with the subjects I cannot assist him with.

Best advice I can give is go with your gut, if being alone works for you then do it. It is tougher than having a partner there to lean on but the reward of knowing you are and can do this on your own is a real buzz.
